Garlic Sesame Bread

If you're looking for a quick and simply bread recipe that has great flavor and is on the healthier side, here is the recipe for you! Not only does it taste great, but this recipe makes a GIANT loaf of bread. Literally bigger than a human head! The reason I added sesame seeds to this recipes was for health benefits, not for flavor. Sesame seeds are full of beneficial vitamins and minerals such as calcium, magnesium, and iron. As well, sesame seeds can help with lowering blood pressure, lowering cholesterol, and improving cardiovascular, digestive, and bone health. So, why not throw a few sesame seeds in your bread to help your health!

Ingredients:

4 cups of all-purpose flour (plus more for kneading and coating)

1 1/2 teaspoons fast acting/ instant yeast

Black pepper (To taste)

1-1 1/2 tablespoons garlic salt (plus more for topping)

2 1/2 tablespoons sesame seeds

2 cups water (110-115F degrees)

Directions: Yield 1 large loaf

Part 1:

-In a large bowl, thoroughly mix combine flour, garlic salt, black pepper, yeast, and sesame seeds

*I use a black pepper grinder and add just a few grinds of pepper to my mixture

-Heat water to 110-115 F degrees and pour into mixture

-Mix until a sticky dough is formed

-Flour hands and knead dough in bowl until dough looks well combined and a ball can be formed in the center of the bowl

-Cover bowl tightly with plastic wrap and let rise for 3-5 hours ( should triple in size)

*If it is a colder day, try turning the oven on to about 200F degrees, then turn it off and place dough inside. Dough may take longer to rise if colder out.

Part 2:

-Preheat oven to 450F degrees

-Once preheated, place a dutch oven in the oven and let the dutch oven warm for 30 minutes (keep lid on)

-During these 30 minutes, turn dough out onto a well floured surface and knead with floured hands

-Continually add flour to dough, while kneading, until the dough becomes hardly sticky and forms a smooth ball (10-15 minutes)

*The dough will be ready once there are no lumps left and hardly any flour needs to be added to keep it from sticking to kneading surface

-Place dough on a large sheet of parchment paper, forming it into a smooth ball

-Using a sharp knife, slice a square or x through top of the dough, just deep enough to sprinkle cut shape with garlic salt

-Sprinkle with desired amount of garlic salt

-Cover dough with previously used plastic wrap and let sit until dutch oven is warmed

Part 3:

-Take dutch oven out of oven and place dough on parchment paper into the dutch oven, cover with the lid, and place in oven for 30 minutes

-After 30 minutes, take the lid off of the dutch oven and continue to bake the bread for 15-20 minutes (until golden brown on top and large splits have formed on top of bread)

-Take dutch oven out of oven and remove bread

-Place bread on cooling rack for 10-15 minutes

*do not cut into bread before 10 minutes or the bread will flatten slightly

-Cut and serve

-Enjoy!
