Have you ever gone to the store for taco ingredients and found that all that they have are packs of 100 tortillas, when really you only need 10-20? Or do you just love the thought of making all your own foods and love to feel incredible when they come out flawlessly? Well, whatever the case, these tortillas are not only easy to make, but really fun too! Try them out and use them for quesadillas, burritos, tacos, wraps, flat bread pizzas... you name it!
Ingredients:
2 cups all-purpose flour (plus more for kneading)
1 tablespoon salted butter, softened
3/4 cup warm water (about 80 F degrees)
1 teaspoon baking soda
Directions: yield 8-12 tortillas (depending on size)
-Mix together flour and baking powder
-Pour flour mixture into food processor and add butter, in small pieces
-Pulse until all ingredient are combined, and mixture is grainy in texture
*This step can be done with a bullet machine or blender if needed
-Slowly add water into processor and mix until a rough dough is formed
*This step can be done with a bread hook if needed
-Coat hands in flour and turn dough out onto floured surface to knead
-Knead, adding flour as needed, until dough is elastic, smooth, and does not stick to surface or hands (3-4 minutes)
-Cut dough into equally sized pieces, depending on amount of tortillas desired, then shape into separate balls
*Dough balls will not be large in size, because they will be rolled out thin
-Cover dough balls with a tea towel and let sit 15-20 minutes
*Warmer surroundings are best if possible
-After dough has sat, place a small amount of butter or olive oil in a medium sized skillet on medium heat, and let warm
-Carefully roll dough into circles, thin enough to see light through when held up to a window, but not thin enough to tear
*This step is tricky, because the dough will thicken as cooked, so you will want to roll dough out as thin as possible, unless thicker tortillas are desired
-Place one tortilla at a time in the skillet, and let cook until large air bubbles being to form (30-60 seconds), then flip and cook on other side (30-60 seconds)
-Cook all tortillas individually, and let cool before serving
-Enjoy!
